About ALGIN
Welcome to the African Local Government Information Network(ALGIN). The is an information clearinghouse for local government decision makers in Africa and beyond This part of the website provides you with a variety of programs and materials for local government officials in Africa.
The ALGIN supports leadership, improvement and innovation in local government, with focus on the practical issues that are important to councils, cities, towns and using internationally tried and tested ways of working in local government.
We work with councils and cities in developing good practice, supporting them in meeting the demands and pressures place upon them by their communities, State, regional and Central government. We do this through networks, partnerships capacity development, online communities of leaders and web resources, and through the support and challenge provided by peers.
We also help develop local government chairs, executives and councillors in key positions through our leadership programmes. Our national Associates will work closely with our partners in local government in their areas and support their respective local government improvement and efficiency in service delivery.
ALGIN offers these organizations and local government officials a new way to share information, develop networks, and improve the services that they provide to their communities.
This network provides local government leaders and officials with practical solutions to meet the challenges in their daily work. The ALGIN is designed with the local government practitioner in mind. While the primary audience is the local government officials - elected and appointed - responsible for the day-to-day functions of a cities, towns, anyone involved in local government issues can find a wealth of useful information within ALGIN.
How does ALGIN work?
ALGIN facilitates the exchange of information through the Internet and also through traditional methods including workshops, publications, conferences, and training. The Internet component of ALGIN is more than a Web site. It is a Web-based forum with links to other organisations that has information that will be helpful to local government organisations.
International Programme
Let us help you to internationalise your organisations and reap the benefits of delivering your services and development using international best practice and support. The international programme is focused on developing international knowledge exchange opportunities, expert trade mission and support to African public sector wishing to grow their leadership and management expertise and organisational performance using international best practices.
The international programme provides a coordinated overseas visit by a group of public sector leaders and executives to meet potential international partners. These visits are usually organised after an initial market research by our members or our partners or opportunities identified through our links with other trade mission organisations.

ALGIN Mission
The mission of ALGIN is to promote the professional development of local government officials through knowledge exchange and first-rate capacity development programme that assists local officials in their decision-making that strengthen the capabilities and performance of their organizations as part of the reform of public service at the local level. ALGIN will do this by facilitating the exchange of timely and useful information at the council, city, regional, State and national level in support of the effort of the respective National Associations in Africa.
